Baby Orajel Review & Giveaway

I've turned to orajel when both of my boys were teething.  They have been around for 40 years, so of course I feel like I can trust their products.  Rowan is working on his eye teeth, which I think are the worst of them all.  3 of them have finally broken through, but we are still waiting for the last one.  Orajel has a new teething gel out - cooling cucumber teething gel.  I was anxious to give it a try and see if it gave Rowan and relief.

Pros:  Orajel uses Benzocaine which is a local topical anesthetic.  It works by blocking nerve signals in the body, thus creating the numbing feeling.  Click here to learn more about Benzocaine.  Orajel has that signature taste.  If you've ever used orajel, you know what I am talking about.  Both of my boys cringe when they use normal orajel, and with good reason.  Although the product works well, it doesn't exactly taste good.  This new cooling cucumber gel tastes so much better.  It has a nice melon flavor, and tastes actually very good. (Yes, I would know because it was mommy tested :) )  Rowan actually opens his mouth when he sees it coming because he knows it tastes good.  It's always nice to give your child medicine that they don't fight you on.
There is a suggestion to keep it in the refrigerator for extra cooling.  I really like this suggestion because we all know that cold things feel good on sore gums.
The gel includes cucumber extract which also helps to soothe the gums.
I really think a little goes a long way too, which means you have to buy the product less often.
It is the #1 pediatrician  recommended teething pain reliever because it allows your baby instant relief.  It has really helped Rowan calm right down when he is having teething pain, which I love.  It definitely works well.

Cons:  Sometimes the consistency doesn't stay the same.  I may squeeze the tube and get a gel out that is more firm, and then all of a sudden it seems to be straight liquid, which can sometimes make a mess.  I notice the consistency is somewhat better when refrigerated.  I'm also not hugely fond of having to cut the tip of the tube. The first time I bought orajel, I cut it way to far down, and the gel starting oozing out everywhere.  I'm sure not to make that mistake now, and make sure I cut it towards the top.  Just a tip for those using or wanting to buy orajel!

The Bottom Line:  Wonderful new teething gel, great taste, works well.

Price:  $5.99 for .33 ounces

Where to Buy:  All major grocers and retailers.  For a location near you, visit baby orajel.

Rating:  Excellent

Baby Orajel sent me 5 extra tubes to give away!  That means 5 winners.

Here's how to enter to win a tube:

Have you ever used orajel?  If so, what is your favorite feature? - 1 entry

You can enter this contest unlimited times, as long as your comments are centered around teething or Baby Orajel.  Please leave a separate comment for each entry.

My daughter is currently teething and we have not tried orajel. I think she could really use it though she seems so sore!

We used orajel with Belle in conjuction with tylenol. It made it nice during the night to put some on for instant relief, then give her tylenol for lasting relief. But now with the links between tylenol and asthma, we probably won't use tylenol as much with Sophie, so it's a good thing we still have orajel around! :) I hope I win!!

Sa-weet! maybe I'll actually win something this time :)

Gavin is teething right now so it would be perfect!

Can you tell I want this?
You said I could enter as many times as I want.

I used the pink baby oragel before. Boy that stuff tastes nasty! no wonder Logan didn't like it. Maybe this cucumber stuff tastes better?

I have been using the nighttime oragel for Calvin. Once it kicks in, he relaxes right away...I love it!

I like that you can carry the tubes around with you anywhere you go because you never know when those teeth are going to push through and cause pain.

Janaca said...

I haven't used orajel before and would like to try it with Jackson!

Janaca said...

I used the teething tablets with Jordan and they didn't seem to work very well. Not sure why I didn't try this product!

Janaca said...

Jordan didn't start getting teeth until he was a year old, but I'm guessing Jackson will get his sooner since he seems a lot bigger and more developed already at 5 weeks! I'll definitely be trying this stuff when that happens so I'd like to win! :)

This would be awesome. We're in teething hell right now, all four top incisors at once.

Theresa said...

I have used the single use applicators before, but it seems like I can't get it all out and I'm not sure how much is really getting on her gums.

Theresa said...

Benzocaine is the ingredient in most oral pain meds and I'm pretty sure the baby orajel contains the same strength as the adult orajel. I wonder if my husband would like the taste also. Being a man and all, he doesn't do well with pain and gets canker sores a lot.

Theresa said...

And one more. I had my mil tell me that they never used orajel, they just used whiskey. Riiight. Don't think I'll be trying that.

I've never used orajel, but I'd love to try it on my son. Thanks for the giveaway!

I have seen some neat teething toys that are Organic Towels with Maple Wood Rings. I was thinking of purchasing one for my son.
I could dab a little Orajel on the ring for him.

I love using Orajel on my son, but it also creates a little drooler. I will have to change his clothes a few times a day because his teething has him drooling a whole lot.

So far my little guy has two bottom teeth that have come in. Oh boy, I have a whole lot more chompers to come in.

I could use some more Orajel.

My 2-year-old never had any problems with teething, she would just wake up and smile the next morning and we would see a new tooth sticking out! She was quite a drooler to start with and the only teething sign we saw was a little extra drool... so I never had to use any Orajel but I definitely know people that did.

Thanks!

I didn't know there was cucumber Orajel, I was interested to learn that the cucumber extract helps cool and soothe painful irritated gums.

Thanks!
xpsundell(at)gmail(dot)com

Xenia said...

It's also smart that the gel is specially formulated to be placed in the refrigerator to provide additional cooling and soothing for baby's sore gums. Makes sense!

Thanks!

My 4-month-old has been teething for a little while now and she is having more issues with it than my older daughter. She is constantly pulling at her mouth and chewing on her fingers and even if I try to give her things to chew on (toys, cold towels, etc) it doesn't seem to help her much. Lately it's been waking her up at night too, so I can't wait for it to pass!

Thanks!
xpsundell(at)gmail(dot)com

Xenia said...

It's been difficult to give my 4-month-old things to chew on to ease her teething pain because she doesn't quite have the coordination to get them into her mouth. Maybe that's why babies typically get teeth closer to 6 months!

Thanks!
xpsundell(at)gmail(dot)com

Xenia said...

I've tried some teething tablets on my little girl but I'm not convinced that they help or work as instantly as Orajel so I would definitely love to try some! Plus, pushing the tablets in under her tongue to get them to dissolve is always a little dicey, particularly during the night.

Thanks!
xpsundell(at)gmail(dot)com

Xenia said...

So far it seems like my daughter's favorite thing to chew on is my finger when it's covered with her burp cloth. During the day this works fine, but I'd love to try the Orajel to ease her pain at night!

Thanks!

One in 2,000 babies is born with milk teeth, which seems like it would be a really weird sight to see!

Can you tell I would really love to win some Orajel? I just want some sleep!

I read that even though the teething process lasts about two years, after the first few teeth come in the process tends to be much less painful. So I just need to make it through these first teeth and then hopefully life will get easier around here!

Thanks!
xpsundell(at)gmail(dot)com

The Bluths said...

One more comment otta do it! I want this gel I want it!!

Xenia said...

I think it's great that Orajel is gluten and casein free and doesn't contain any egg or dairy products. Although my daughter doesn't seem to have any allergies, some of my friends' children do and I'm sure it would be very disappointing if they weren't about to use medicine because of the ingredients.

Thanks!
xpsundell(at)gmail(dot)com

Xenia said...

I searched the Orajel website looking to see how long the numbing lasts before it wears off and baby's gums start to hurt again but couldn't find any information. Hopefully long enough to get me some sleep! :)

Thanks!
xpsundell(at)gmail(dot)com

Kathy P said...

i love how it works pretty quickly..i have used it on my own gums when i have a toothache :)

Xenia said...

I've heard that some people don't use Orajel because it could get in the baby's mouth and throat and numb everything but does that mean that they just put too much in there? I'm still willing to give it a try!

Thanks!
xpsundell(at)gmail(dot)com

Xenia said...

I heard a story about a woman using Orajel on a bee sting because it numbed the area and stopped the child from hurting. Sounds like there are multiple uses for Orajel!

Thanks!

I've read that often the final week before a tooth surfaces can be the most painful... can you tell that my daughter is nearing that final week? :)

My sister-in-law attributed all of my nephew's crabbiness to teething starting from when he was about 3 months old... but then he didn't actually get any teeth until at least 7 or 8 months and now she finally admits that he was just a crabby baby.

Thanks!
